Serdar Rahimov was the first in the history of Turkmen judo, to win a gold medal in the weight category up to 66 kg at the "Grand Slam" tournament, one of the largest International competitions held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Rahimov won five fights on his way to the championship. He defeated the Mongolian judoka Byambasuren Ulziibayar, in the second the Canadian judoka Julien Frascadore, then Mulorajab Khalifaev, who represented the hosts, and Bobur Vajiev from Uzbekistan. In the final, the Turkmen judoka defeated the Tajik judoka Obid Dzhebov.
