Shahzadbek Matyakubov, an athlete from the national weightlifting team of Turkmenistan, achieved major success at the 20th Asian Games held in Nagoya, Japan. Competing in the under-110 kg weight category, the 22-year-old athlete won the silver medal.

In an intense competition held on September 29 at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Centre sports complex, the athlete—coached by head coach Meretguly Sahetmyradov—managed to lift 188 kg in the snatch and 222 kg in the clean and jerk.

The gold medal in this weight category was won by Uzbekistan's Akbar Djuraev with a total result of 423 kg (197 kg + 226 kg). He set a new world record in the snatch and broke the Asian Games record in the clean and jerk. The bronze medal went to China's representative H. Liu with a total of 405 kg (185 kg + 220 kg).

Shahzadbek Matyakubov's achievement is the second medal for Turkmenistan's national team at the current Games—earlier, karate fighter Davut Nazmyradov (under-75 kg) also won a silver medal.
