Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is hosting the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), one of the most important events in the sporting life of the Asian continent. Delegations from 45 Asian countries have gathered to discuss key issues related to the development of the Olympic movement in Asia and to elect a new President of the organization.
Turkmenistan is represented at the Assembly by an official delegation. The Chairman of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports, Allaberdy Saparov, and the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan, Ata Akmammedov, are taking part in the event.
One of the central events of the General Assembly is the election of a new President of the Olympic Council of Asia. The sole candidate for this position is Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee. The elections are being held as the current OCA President, Raja Randhir Singh of India, is unable to complete his term due to health reasons.
During the General Assembly, participants are considering strategic priorities for the development of sport in Asia through 2028. Particular attention is being paid to the digital transformation of sports institutions and to strengthening the role of youth in the Olympic movement.
Turkmenistan’s participation in this high-level international event highlights the country’s commitment to Olympic values and its active involvement in regional and international sports cooperation.
