Hangeldi Lukmanov Wins Turkmenistan’s First Medal at the 3rd Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Games

Turkmen boxer Hangeldi Lukmanov has earned Turkmenistan’s first medal at the 3rd Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Games, taking place in Azerbaijan.

Competing in the 52-kilogram weight category, Lukmanov defeated Belarusian boxer Kirill Leychanka in the quarterfinal match. In the semifinal, he faced Azerbaijan’s Ali Abasli and, despite a close defeat, was awarded the bronze medal according to tournament regulations.

At only 16 years old, Lukmanov had already represented Turkmenistan at the Asian Youth Boxing Championships, where he was recognized as one of the most promising athletes in his category.The boxing competitions are being held at the Yevlakh Olympic Center, with eight Turkmen boxers competing as part of the country’s 56-member national delegation.

The 3rd CIS Games bring together athletes under 23 years old from 13 countries. In total, 1,624 athletes are competing until October 8 across 23 sports, contesting 246 sets of medals.At the 2nd CIS Games, held in Belarus last year, Turkmenistan’s national team won 3 silver and 15 bronze medals.
