For the first time, Turkmenistan has hosted the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Level 2 Regional Coaching Seminar, aimed at preparing specialists qualified to train high-performance tennis players.

The seminar was held at the Tennis Complex of Ashgabat’s Olympic Village, a venue that has gradually strengthened its international status. In 2020, it hosted the introductory “Play Tennis” course, in 2023 the ITF Level 1 seminar, and in 2025, for the first time, the ITF Level 2 program. This became possible after the complex was officially recognized as the “Asian Regional Training Center,” with the certificate presented on June 1, 2024, by ITF Development Officer for Asia, Seydamir Borghei.

The seminar gathered 15 coaches, including specialists from Turkmenistan as well as from abroad. The program was delivered by ITF experts — Seydamir Borghei (Iran) and Igor Shelyakin (Uzbekistan).

Over the course of 12 days, participants completed 37 online courses via the ITF Academy platform and then took five exams covering on-court practice, individual and group training methods, testing, and essay writing. Coaches who successfully pass the assessment will be awarded the internationally recognized ITF Level 2 Certificate, confirming their advanced qualification and granting the right to work with players at the world’s top tournaments.

This milestone event represents a significant contribution to the development of tennis in Turkmenistan and further strengthens the country’s role as a regional hub for sports education.
