AFC delegation highlights positive dynamics of the development of football in Turkmenistan

Delegation of the Asian Football Confederation chaired by its President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa paid work visit to Ashgabat. 

The guests visited the office of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan where they familiarized themselves with the activity of the organization. In addition, detailed conversation on the perspectives of the development of this sports in our country has also took place during the visit. After, the delegation had meeting with the member of the Executive Committee of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan and coaches of the clubs – the participants of national championship. 

The AFC Secretary General Dato Windsor John noted positive dynamics of football development in Turkmenistan what is visually indicated by the successes of Turkmen sportsmen in international arena including the qualification of national team to the final leg of 2019 Asian Cup, which matches are to be held in United Arab Emirates. 

Moreover, women national team will participate in the final tournament of Asian Futsal Championship in Thailand for the first time. This is the debut of Turkmen sportswomen in such big competitions, successful performance of Altyn Asyr and Ahal clubs in the second important Asian tournament – the AFC Cup, has also been noted. 

The Secretary General also answered some questions related to the change of the regulations and format of the AFC Cup where Turkmen clubs play. During the visit to our country, the members of the delegation of Asian Football Confederation had meetings in the Government of Turkmenistan and with the high officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. 

Representative of the AFC gave high appraisal to the sport facilities of the capital especially to International Ahalteke Equestrian Complex and the Olympic village where V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games have been successfully held in September of the last year. 

For the last few years, sport infrastructure of our country has been actively developed and this positive movement did not skip football. Three stadiums in Ashgabat meeting the world standards are able to host high-level matches. In addition, every velayat has modern football arenas. For example this year, the sport complex of Balkanabat hosted several international games.
